Bombs AWAY!

Today was International Yarn Bombing Day, and I took full advantage, bombing eight places!  I've had so much fun looking at photos from across the world!  Here are a few of mine!  Click on any of these to view them larger.  The bottom left was taken at the Sinnissippi bike path near a park bench.  The bottom right was taken at a bus stop on Rockton Avenue.

New items!

I love new challenges and fresh ideas, and here are a few of my latest!

(A couple of these were inspired by my customers.)

I really LOVE the fingerless gloves!  They're ideal for people who want warm hands and wrists but need their fingers (toll booth attendants, cashiers, secretaries, etc).  The little teddy bear hat just makes me smile.  I would love to see it used in a photography session!  And last, but not least, who could deny a cute green face like the one on my new frog?

I have so many other ideas churning in my head!  Keep watch!!  And if you have any requests, let me know!

Tick, tick, tick...

BOOM!!

My FIRST yarn bomb!

I've been itching to create my own "yarn bomb" ever since I discovered what they were a couple weeks ago.  When I first heard the term, I pictured people taking their yarn scraps and throwing them over trees, similar to toilet-papering.  But I soon discovered it is a form of graffiti, although not actual graffiti since it is removable and causes no damage to property.  It is also considered a form of art.  People typically place brightly colored creations on boring or run down things throughout the city to make them more beautiful.  This morning was my first attempt at surprising someone with a "bomb"!

As you can see, "yarn bombing" can be extreme!  I found this little jewel HERE.  I'm not sure I could ever do anyting quite so large.  Right now I'm happy just to leave small treasures for people to enjoy.

This photo was found HERE.  Very cool!!!

A new season, a new show!

As some of you may already know, I only started crocheting for profit in September of 2010, just 7 months ago!  My short journey has been amazing and I owe it all to my fans!

In just a few weeks I'll be holding a table at my second show.  I'm planning on having a huge variety of items on my table and hope this show does just as well as my last.  I have almost no stock right now and will be starting my stock in just a few days (I know, right?!).  I hope you'll come visit me if you'll be in the area!

Thousand Fan Giveaway!

I would be NOTHING without all of my loving fans!  Thank you all so much for getting me over the "thousand" mark!  To thank you, I'd like to give away an owl hat, made to the winner's specifications.  Here's what I'd like you to do to be eligible to win:

1. Share my link someplace!  Share it on Facebook, through e-mail, on your blog, Twitter, MySpace, etc.  You don't have to post it on each one of those but I'd love it if you shared on at least one.  This will help my fan base grow and will notify your friends of their chance to win something FREE!
2. Post a comment below with your name and email so I can get ahold of you if you win!

It's that simple!  Winner will be drawn March 30, 2011 at 1:00 pm (cst).  I trust that you will all play fair and not sneek by without sharing my link.  Afterall, it's really not asking much for something I work hard on.  Have fun!!

Spring is near!!

I had so much fun creating this new bunny hat for Easter!  This particular hat is going to a photographer for use as a prop in her studio, and will fit a 3 month old.  What do you think?!

I began taking custom orders again two nights ago and I'm already booked out 2 1/2 weeks, awesome!!  I may need a whole extra room in the house just for yarn if I keep this up!

Success!

Day 1
Spending time working this weekend at the 7th Annual Sock Monkey Madness Festival was such a blessing!!  I never knew just how beloved the Sock Monkey really was!  Mostly everyone had their own unique monkey doll with them and a few stopped by to share their stories with me.  I also met some great vendors from near and far (North Carolina, Wisconsin, and even California!).  I made a total of 33 hats for the show...and sold 25 of them, while also taking 6 orders! Needless to say, my table was WIPED OUT!  I was amazingly blessed with such a great outcome!

Austin's sign
On the sceond day of the festival, I hired my son, Austin, to help me out.  It was easier to have him there to watch over the table for those times when I just couldn't hold it anymore, LOL!!  There was a point in time when I only had baby hats left for sale, so he made me a paper sign to set next to them to let everyone know  :)

New additions
Of course, we couldn't leave the festival empty handed!  Austin found these adorable tiny monkeys for $5 each.  He chose one for his brother and sister, as well as himself.  He's already started working on making a superhero cape for his!

The experience I had here this weekend was fantastic and I'll be counting down the days until next year's show!!  Thanks to God for getting me through the preparation and the show with great success, and thanks to a few of my fans for making it out to see me!!  It means so much to me!

Keep on the look-out!

I'm just about ONE week from reopening for orders!  My Sock Monkey Madness Festival is this weekend and it all depends on how many custom orders I get while I'm there!  I can't wait to post some photos for you all to see.  I'll announce my reopening on my Facebook page real soon!  Thanks for being patient!

Crazy excited!

I'm showing my Sock Monkey hats for the first time in just a few short weeks and I'm so excited!  I'm working at a nice pace right now to build up a small stock and should hopefully have quite a few in a variety of colors to share with others!  I really hope I do well.

I'm going to throw some kind of giveaway together for the end of February so be on the look out.  In the meantime, be sure to visit Sugar Mama's Sweet Bowtique on Facebook for her HUGE giveaway!  The date is a surprise but it will be during the month of February.  Go "like" her page to get updates on this so you can participate!

I'm off to make more MONKEYS!!!

Customer Appreciation Giveaway

I appreciate each and every one of you, but without my customers I wouldn't be where I'm at today.  So for this giveaway, I am choosing the winner from those who have left me feedback on my "Reviews" tab on Facebook.  If you've purchased or received an item from me, please leave me a review to be eligible.  I will be drawing the winner's name January 31st at noon (cst).  The winner will receive a $10 credit good toward any item I sell (does not apply to shipping).  Have fun!

It's crunch time!

I have two weeks left to finish my remaining 15 orders before I begin building stock for my upcoming show.  I've run tables at craft shows before, but never for any of my hats or scarves.  I'm so nervous!  My goal is to make a hat a day beginning February 1st and ending March 4th.  That gives me just 32 hats.  That doesn't sound like very much to me -- I'm worried I wont have enough!

My plan to keep myself sane is to just take it one day at a time (easier said than done).  I've also created order forms in case I do run out.  The great thing is if I have anything left over, they can be sold off my Facebook page without a hitch.  My fans are the greatest EVER!

Thanks for reading my blog guys :)   My next giveaway is going to be posted in a week!  Will you be watching for it?!  (I love comments....hint, hint!)

Bad Hair Day Giveaway!!

I have a very fun and outgoing hairstylist that I've partnered up with for the first giveaway of 2011!  My friend Heather has been doing my hair for about a year now and always does a great job.  She writes a funny blog called Confessions of a Hairstylist and keeps a fan page on Facebook Confessions of a Hairstylist on Facebook.  Together, her and I are giving away one of my hand-crocheted hats!

This adult women's beanie is super thick and fuzzy.  Valued at $12.  (shades of gray)

To enter to win this giveaway you must do the following:
* Like For the Love of Scarves on Facebook.
* Like Confessions of a Hairstylist on Facebook
* Comment on MY blog (right here) that you'd like to win the hat.

We'll use random.org to select the winner January 10th at noon (est) and we'll check to be sure the winner has posted on both blogs.  We ask that you do these simple things because we'd like to know that people are paying attention and care enough about our giveaways that they'd take the time to read our blogs and get to know us :)

Here's to 2011!!!
